It looks as though some people don't want the year to end ;)

About 30, mostly damp, all minshod, miles so far this week. All at an easy pace. Just building base.

I'd have started one except for the fact I have nothing to report yet this week.
Working dayshift the first half of the week so no running. Body is pretty fatigued anyhow with lack of sleep. Actually get Christmas off this year, happens to be the day I have off on this week of my rotation (this is my 6 day / 72hr week). Might try to get a Christmas run in tomorrow, then back on nightshifts Fri-Sun.
    Merry Christmas all!

My new year's resolution will be to get back into reporting here.

Merry Christmas, all. See you on the other side.

Back in the saddle today with 5.5 miles. I took off a full week after my first half marathon and then it started to rain, so missed a few more days. Feel like a slug. Can't afford to feel that way though because I've signed up for anothe half in four weeks. Has anyone run in downtown New Orleans? I've been told that barefooting there is a very bad idea, but the adviser was not a barefooter.

Congrats on your first half Bare Claws!

Well I went out this afternoon, got to work off some of these Christmas cookies! 8.1mi barefooting in modest mid-30's temps today. Tried out a new running shirt my folks got me today. :)

4.7 on Monday and 5.0 yesterday; both at a slow jog - walk pace with the dog I am sitting. He and I get a little muddy but that's part of the fun. Maybe I will get in another run this week. In addition, I signed up for a 5k this Sunday at Lake Merritt where I might meet Efrem and other local barefooters.

    Wishing everyone happy holidays!

Slipped in another 4 mile today and then walked another 2 with some coffee! Somehow, I got a small cut/crack on my left sole just to the upper left of the arch. Hopefully some bacitracin and ointment will help it heal by Sunday. This is the first time I think I have ever gone jogging on consecutive days. Have I become a compulsive jogger?

Good luck on the race bare-ftazn. I too got a consecutive day in today. I generally don't, except at my peak this past summer I was handling some consecutive days okay it seemed. But the sun was out bright and it was warm in the 40's so I just had to! First time in a while that I ran sans shirt... can't even remember last time I just wore a short sleeve shirt.

So 5mi in today. And back in on night shifts through the weekend so I'll try to get some stairs in every couple hours tonight.

    Feel better soon Paul!

Thanks, Tristan! Do you get stiff legs after your runs? Maybe I am still conditioning.

    Be careful on those stairs!

I think everyone seems to be in holiday mode  ...

Not much happening here too...Only 27km/16.8km. And next week looks pretty much the same (maybe a tiny bit more)

This week is a a big mileadge week for me...my last big week before slowing down for a couple weeks before my first ultra Jan 10.

It will be a PR mileadge wise...I wanted to go big to test myself, and becuase the work schedule is light this week, and the wifey is in Brasil for the holidays so I had some time on my hands.

I have never done a marathon distanced run before, though several 20+ mile runs.

Last Sunday I did 22 miles.

    Monday 11.25 miles

    Tuesday Half Marathon 13.1 miles
    Wednasday 13.1 miles

Thursday I did my first marathon distance 26.2 miles...it was more difficult than I thought it would be. I plan my long runs as out-and-back runs, to trick myself, so if I get too tired I still have to get the mileadge in to get home, but my standard long run route is 22 miles...so to get the extra 4.2 miles in to complete 26.2 I had to run several miles around my house close to home...it was a mistake because mentally it became very monotonous and mentaly hard the last several miles, with home within easy reach.

My iPod ran out of battery and it was dark out too...so no scenery or music to absorb myself into...was tough...but a good way to spend Christmas with the family away.

Friday I did about 2 hours, or about 8.5 miles.

Today I did another Marathon...was planned better and had a joyous run after a rough start....absolutely perfect weather...about 55 degrees and not a cloud in the sky...I did stop for about 20 minutes at the top of a little mountain to enjoy the view...a couple of bathroom and water refill stops too...took 6 hours 31 minutes. Planned it perfect distance wise, only had one run around the block when I got back home to complete the 26.2.

Tomorrow I will try for the same distance but with some more hills built in.

I'm not losing weight, which would make me faster if I was lighter, because I consume about 400 calories per hour while running...and then I eat like a pig afterwards lol...I gave up on trying to train for this thing AND lose weight by being at a calorie deficit while I do it.

Am gunna sleep good tonight. After I eat this pizza.

If I get through this 26.2 tomorow, that will be 146.55 miles for this week...by far my most ever...previous highest mileadge week was about 80 miles.

The hardest part is getting started for me now...today I planned on getting going at 5am, but could not get out of bed until 6 am, and it took another 2 hours to psych myselfseof up to get out there and start going...even when I was outside the gate I couldn't get going, and then I ran about a mile stopping every 100 to 400 meters telling myself to go back home and take a rest day...was ridiculous...took about 4 miles to settle into a comfortable rhythm...basically I got far enough away from home that I accepted the inevitable of doing to run...I am not ashamed to admit that I kinda cried a little bit lol...no actual tears, but I did sob a little lol

After about mile 8 it got easy and joyous again...

Can't wait to see what tomorow brings, though thinking about running that far again has me feeling at the same time awestruck and a little nauseous.

    My bones hurt.

But I also feel very alive and kinda hyper aware.

I will have to do some strength traing on Monday to balance all this very low intensity cardio...I am getting that shaky feeling and chills from all the cardio with no higher intensity stuff to balance it.

After Monday's strength training I will rest a bit.

I am so slow that I don't have any illusions that I can do this 50 miler in 12 hours or less...so I'll have to take the early start option...after this is all over I will diet a bit and get lighter, then maybe I'll be a bit faster, but at 240 pounds speed over distance is not an option.

Great job getting back in the saddle Bare Claws.
I think we were running together for a short time during your first 1/2.
Was it the Dallas Marathon /1/2 marathon?
Sounds like you are recovering well
It is great to see another Texan on this post!
Keep me posted on any other events you might be doing in the north Texas area, maybe we can meet and run together.

I have never ran in New Orleans barefoot or shod.

5k or 6k today in temperatures that were in the -35C range with the windchill. Got to love merino base layers for days like this. Too cold for the Sockwas today so I dusted off my KIGO's for today's run. Looked like Santa with frost covering my toque and facial hair, including eyelashes which were frozen together by the time I got home. Hope everyone had a great Xmas. :coldfeet:

Yes, Dallas marathon/half. I was really happy to finally meet and run with another barefooter. Let me get through the NOLA race and then I'll let you know what the rest of winter/spring holds for me. I really wish I hadn't signed up for it but my youngest son needs a marathon and he couldn't come for Dallas. So we're going to NOLA Rock & Roll and hope to win enough at the casino slots to pay for the trip.

Hello. Remember me? Apparently it takes more than a couple of days to recover from pleurisy :inpain: ...which could have been partly due to travel when I thought I was better, but wasn't, so had a relapse a couple days into my Florida trip. Did make a barefoot hike in the rain to a swamp, though (thanks for the info about the nature preserve, Sid). And was barefoot 99% of the time during the trip, through airports and in hotels and restaurants. Oh, and a cold couple of walks on the blustery beach. And then, the relapse. Sigh.

So, I tried to be really patient with recovery the second time around. I finally felt like it was safe to ride the spin bike on Friday for 45 minutes. That went fine.

Today, I ran for the first time since I was sick, an easy 3 miles in a moist 32°F. There was a layer of ice water on much of the path, so I chose Sockwas with wool socks. I was pleased with how it felt and my pace. I was dreading how much stamina and strength I have lost, but my pace was not far off of where I had been, although the mileage obviously was paltry compared to a marathon! But, I've "come back" before, and I think I will give it a shot this time, too!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!:woot:
