I only saw the 9 minute youtube bit, but that was more than enought to see that it was going to get very ugly for the cultural voyeurs. I think the phrase that sprang to mind was "lambs to slaughter."

...and the Tarajumara involved were maybe the "civilized" guys who've been eating too much yankee crap, as the road cut into their village indicates.

Yep, too bad the Europeans didn't play by the indigenous people's rules. Would have been a whole different world. They would have let them in but ........

Peanut, you might like to

Peanut, you might like to read / listen to a great book that came out a couple years ago called 1491, about the new world and what it looked like just before Columbus ruined the neighborhood. I had it on CD and listened to it twice in a row. Absolutely fascinating.

If the indigenous peoples hadn't been reduced by diseases like influenza and smallpox prior to the arrival of the actual Conquistadores and other Europeans, to the tune of more than 90% in many cases, the story would likely have been much different and maybe written in Mayan.

1491 has a new sequel out recently called 1493, mostly about the "Columbian Exchange" which is the homogenizing of the world's biologies in a grand free for all sort of experiment.

I'm on Part 3, and I'm loving

I'm on Part 3, and I'm loving this show. One competitor can't stand the huarahces, as they are killing his feet, so he opts to go barefoot, and another one who is sick and throwing up is complaining about how the Tarahumara are outside where he is trying to sleep partying and drinking at 5:30 in the morning. You guys should visit that You Tube link Neil posted and go through the series part by part (just search for the title, and change the part number to get to the next episode).

Okay, now I can tell they're

Okay, now I can tell they're getting ready to kill a cow or bull, so I'm fast forwarding through that part.

Scratch that.  He's not going

Scratch that. He's not going to go barefoot. He found some DUCT TAPE, and he's making an alternative over the top configuration, which he likes. (You men and your duct tape!)

Done.  Loved it!  Thanks for

Peanut, I'm very fortunate to

Peanut, I'm very fortunate to have a spouse who's in charge of circulation at our local library. She gets me first choice of the coolest CD books. I drive almost 750 miles a week for work and get to listen to lots of such things.

Hubby and I watched some more

Hubby and I watched some more of the Tarahumara this morning. I have been increasing my miles a lot lately and after seeing them again today I ran another 14 again!

"Carlisle is so funny. On his way out to the store after I got back from my 14 he says," I think I see a trip to Mexico in our future." LOL Well, I'd love to run with them but not ready for quite a while......

Great video, Fayette Guy!You
