Mileage Reporting 36er Week of 2013

Excellent 10 mile run at5:45 am., 82 deg., 62% rh... Saw rabbits, squirrels, bats, a swan, a duck. Heard the rooster crow. Great creek crossings.
This is the last run for week 3 of training for me. Total for week 28 (13 with KT tape)(no KT tape today). looking forward to tour de flure 9-21-13 20k.
still looking at the Dallas full marathon in December.

3.11 miles at the Warrior Dash today. Great fun, but learned a valuable lesson for next year, wear shoes. I went in my Luna Pacers but in the first mile I had to take them off due to the mud and the sandals sliding all around under my feet. From then on I was barefoot, which gives very little traction in that mud and steep hills. My feet are a bit sore from all the gravel that was laid down on certain spots on the trail. At the fire jumping they had massive gravel everywhere and there was no way to avoid it and I know I was grimacing in pain as the photographer snapped photos of me. Overall it was a lot of fun, but I'll leave the barefooting in races to Dan and Mike. They both have much more of a tolerance for gravel than I do. Dan and Mike got lot's of comments and looks as Dan was zebraman again and Mike was, well, Mike and in his loincloth. After the race we were in the beer garden and Mike kneeled down to do something with a trigger point and the couple beside us both turned their heads away in unison, so I think he may have flashed them a bit. Mike apologized but I am sure they are both scarred for life now. :D

Lol! :D I did WD barefoot last year, but there is no way in hell I could do it in sandals -precisely for that reason- there's no getting around the slippery tops. I think VFFs would work best for WD.

warrior dash today. nick says it was 3.1 miles. my watch didn't track it correctly. took me 48 mins with about 15 mins or so of waiting in line for a couple of obstacles. had lots of fun. flashed plenty of people with the loin cloth. didn't even think Nick would acknowledge Dan and i because of our costumes but he did, pre beer too.

I had a lazy week this week, only one run before today, so I finished off with a Sunday run of 8 and a bit km, or 5 and a bit miles along the beach at low tide, mid morning. Glorious spring day, sunny but not too hot. Ran further than I planned because I thought I was a chance to pass somebody, but they stopped when I was getting close. Lo and behold it was a young lady running BF. I didn't say hi, that would have been far too creepy on my part.

Later today I had to watch my football team lose a final with the 4 year old sitting on my knee asking who was winning. Not us. Oh well.

Ran the Hamburg Alsterlauf today, a 10km road race in Northern Germany.

Previous best time on this course: 55:15.
Previous overall best time for 10km: 52:55.
Time today: 50:10.
Barefoot.

Doing my happy dance now.

The website for Warrior Dash Oregon said it was 3.11 miles. I didn't bring my garmin on this one because I was afraid I'd bring it.

The 3 or 4 seconds may be off for you a bit since my heavy weight is about 165lbs at 5'10"...my fast racing weight is 145-150lbs. I'm not sure which way the ratio shifts for bigger stronger runners...would be an interesting experiment though. I haven't read much about this other than weight is one of the biggest factors in basic running/biking speed especially on uphills.

I have a couple friends who are bigger than me who have similar speeds on a flat running course but I crush them if there are hills on the course...they are generating much more power than i can and on shorter flat races with a bit of downhill in them they out sprint me easily at the end.
Sounds like you have more of a classic endurance runner's build. I'd be happy just to get down to 200, from 217-219 right now, at a little over 6'1". With the strength-training, I'm not trying to bulk up or anything, just want to get a bit stronger, so it should be possible. But you're right, I have more of a sprinter's build. The one year I went out for track in hs, I ran the 100, 440, and 880. I envy you guys who can run long no problem. I'm capping my runs around the 11-to-12-mile-mark for the time being until I can lose more weight. I've learned my knees can hold up a lot better than I had previously thought possible, but I still respect all the weight they're carrying, and don't want to overdo it.

I also run up to a minute per mile slower first thing in the morning. Has anyone else had this effect?

Congrats! Did you run it barefoot?

I had far too much fun dancing last night. About 1.5 hours of dancing time, bare feet. My hubby did pick up a small shard of glass on the floor once before I stepped on it. I spotted a loose carpet staple and put it aside. We occasionally had the whole floor to ourselves because other people seemed to need to rest.... "Call Me the Breeze" was particularly fun to dance to. That's what was going on for the photo. No alcohol involved for me. I don't like it much and I was the driver.

But I did need McD french fries afterward. Hunger and salt cravings. For some reason, ordering 3 large fries, 1 double bacon cheeseburger (for our friend who had been snorkeling the Boise River all day), and a water at 1 AM is extremely funny. I was laughing so hard I was crying. The folks in the window thought we were mildly scary, but entertaining. Also, I think I have converted one of my band members to going barefoot. He has been barefoot the last couple of times.:Ddancing w:my band.jpg

Was going to just do 10 this morning, put in 11 instead. A good back to back weekend for me. Bumping up the mileage next weekend...... Contemplating my running tactics at the end of the October when I run a half on a Saturday and a full marathon on Sunday. Should I shoot for a PR on the half and just do what ever pace feels comfortable on Sunday for the full since I will PR that regardless since it will be my first full marathon?

Hmmm, well, foot pain started a couple hours after the race and I still have it this morning. Hope I don't have a stress fracture. I don't think it was the running that hurt the foot, but the drops from a couple of the obstacles were probably 5+ feet high and not doing any training for that sort of thing possibly set me up for problems. Hope it's nothing serious. I can still walk but it is a bit painful.

I'd guess you would pick up at least 30 - 40 seconds per mile.

Today's run... local roads over to Harbins park and back, hi 70'sF and humid. Total 7.3 miles in 57:30...managed a couple tempo miles at about a 6:20 pace...feets seem to be holding up on these speedier outings, no extra abrasion so far.

When I stopped at the drinking fountain at the park a mountain biker started telling me about his Vibram running after he saw I was barefoot. He had tried running full barefoot a couple times but the rocks bothered him. I told him about the BRS and he had seen the Facebook page but didn't know anything more about it...maybe he will show up some day.
