It has been a few months now that my partner and I have been in our transition to BFR. Perhaps that should be natural running in my case as I don't see limiting myself to 'pure' BFR. This does bring up something that I have found noteworthy in my exploration of written material relating to BFR.
It seems to me that our little group of intrepid explorers / early adopters / rebels etc. may, at least in my view, may have fallen into the trap of what I call 'digital' thinking. That is some seem to be focused on one form or other of minimalist running being more correct than another.
Is BFR better than minimalist running? Is this just an agrument of semantics when most forms of minimalist running are commonly referred to as 'barefoot'? By extension is minimalist running better than shod running? To me it is very personal. What is best for you is best. The goal is to run, preferably with joy and even more preferaby without injury. The prevention of the latter probably has a LOT to do with realising the former.
But I digress. Ultimately for me this is about many shades of grey rather than black and white. I am thrilled that I have stumbled (pun intended) upon barefoot running. While it has already become clear that the transition process with be lengthy it is equally clear that, for me at least, the effort is warranted.
Still I do see myself running in Haraches and perhaps some other form of minimalist running shoe. I may even slide into my Asics from time to time, though I suspect Asics will not be receiving much, if any, of my hard earned money in the future. The point is here that even for me there are many answers to what form of running I practice. The answer will vary according to my changing needs, the weather (I live in the Great White North after all), my mood, etc.
Now all I have to do is keep my fingers crossed that Canada Post clears up its backlog from the strike soon so I can get my Haraches in the mail. Hopefully this will aid me in adding some distance and frequency to my runs in my quest to run my first race BF / minimalist. It is only a 1 mile bridge run that my partner(jockgirl1965) and I hope to do the first weekend of August.
Other than that event my goal is to get back to at least somewhat reqular 5K runs at a pace that is similar to my shod times. It will be interesting to see how long it takes me to get there.
Now back to waiting for the mail...

Jenn
