It appears that super glue is relatively non-toxic but don't ever substitute something cotton-based for the leather (like denim). See wiki, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyanoacrylate. A "powerful, rapid exothermic reaction" on the bottom of your feet would not be fun.

Yes, it peels off easily right after the workout. Much easier to remove than the tape. I can't recommend other people use super glue but it works for me.

And yes, it sets cotton on fire.
