Ive been kicked off of my college indoor track for being barefoot several times so i started wearing socks to make them happy. Anyhow, its a smooth track and i found that my socks slipped if i pushed off. Turns out its a great training tool to not push off while running.
So in a nutshell: wear socks while you run on a smooth surface to get instant feedback on whether your pushing off or not and to what degree.
