Freeballing: Going without undershorts, said of a male, so called because his balls hang free and unencumbered. A similar expression is "going commando," which can be used of either a male or female without underwear, but is more often used of a male.

I used to wear compression shorts and a shorts that reach my kness. I noticed many great athletes wear shorter shorts, so I went out to the local sport shop and bought me a pair of NB short shorts that only get to about half(or a little less) of my thigh. It has this kind of support inside the shorts and thats it.
So im freeballing. Is this how its supposed to be used? Is it normal to freeball or what? What do you guys do?

I have running shorts with great support and some with not-so-great support (looser boxer-style liner). I wore the latter yesterday during a long run for the first time and paid for it with an evening of tenderness. Those same shorts are my most comfortable for shorter runs, however. I know many runners that kilt it, sans support of any kind, and it works for them. My kilt experiment didn't get me far without halting chafe issues. I imagine that were I able to put in longer miles, the lack of support would have been similar to yesterday's long run.

What works or doesn't work for one may produce different results for another. That's why we are all an "experiment of one". Good luck with your lab work ;-)

You know, we think "support" for feet is just something dreamed up by the shod. I wonder if that part of the male anatomy really needs "support", too.

thats when we wear male thongs or g-strings TJ.

I never wear supportive under garments when I run or do sports. Ive also read that using support lowers your sperm count. so ya, use that info as you will

Yeah, my husband's doctor told him to quit wearing tight pants because it keeps "the jewels" too close to the body, and too hot, and the spermies don't like that.

My guess is, that evolutionarily speaking, it's just like everything else -the parts that are artificially protected become more sensitive because of that protection. You also must think about the fact that the ancestors, in addition to being barefoot, probably wore little, if anything, and the cool breezes (especially caused from running) may have kept the poor little dudes in hiding -hence no need for a hammock anyway. ;)

So I went for a nice morning run and it wasnt that bad. A little too flingy in the beginning, but after some time, either I got used to it or my boys just stopped flinging.
So New Balances motto is correct. <=>

Rusinique, if your shorts have a lining in it your not really freeballing it or going commando. True freeballing and commando is with zero support, so being inside your jeans, pants, loin cloth or shorts that do not have a liner and your not wearing underwear. I prefer to freeball it when I go hiking and camping, less chaffage. Running on the other hand I prefer to use a pair of shorts with a liner or shorts with a compression liner otherwise I cannot run more than 5 miles without serious consequences.

I've been using a pair of spandex boxer-briefs under my outer shorts when running. They're not tight around the "area" but still provide protection against chafing.

I'm a fan of running shorts with a liner. I went out once this winter with just tights on. They were a little loose in the front area. Coming back, the North wind picked up and really got cold, I had to call my son to pick me up. I thought "they" would never warm up. So for cold weather, I always wear a few extra layers.

My UK military friend called it "regimental". So, add that to your list of descriptive words.

When I run in a kilt, I go regimental but then my tree trunk thighs tend to rub together and that gets a bit uncomfortable after a while, even using glide.

Finally...we can say balls but not "birds with blue feet"?

Shorts with liners are all that I run in. First off it's cheaper, also less laundry and less material to get all sweaty.
