Yeah, I caught that after I posted but I was walking out of the house. I figured the point would be understood. I fixed it.
    Thanks

So, since everyone at work knows I'm a runner I'm getting inundated with questions, comments, etc. This happening to everyone else?
I'm just not up to listening to everyone's speculations and theories.

As far as the disagreement goes, which shall be recorded as such, let's turn our focus back to the original purpose of this thread. :(

Ran 2.5 miles for Boston this morning. Thought a lot about why I run. Didn't have to give myself the little pep talks like I usually do. Just told myself to shut up and run cause others can't.

I saw a post on facebook with a picture of two barefoot runners in the marathon, I believe they were almost to mile 26 when it happened, and were stopped before the finish. Not sure if they are members on here or not, but they were fine.

If it was a guy and a girl, it's probably the same one I saw. They are good.

There's a fellow on Running Ahead who has ordered bracelets to support Boston, blue with yellow lettering. He has 45, but is willing to order more if more people want. He's asking for $3 per bracelet -- $1 to cover cost and postage, and $2 for a donation. I don't know details of where the donation will go or what the lettering says, but you can e-mail him at Therunningnerd777@gmail.com. His RA handle is jblackjr. He's suggesting that the bracelets be worn until next year's marathon.
I just thought some of y'all might want in on this so I'm passing along the info.

Exactly. I do not want to see videos of people getting killed. I prefer to listen to or read my news, the radio sensationalises less (certainly my regular station) & I get to choose what I read. I do think it's important to really expose yourself to the horror of what some sick humans can do occasionally, but I would rather visit a museum, or an exhibition of war photos for example, where I can contemplate, can feel the horror & can walk away - I never want to feel that way at home, but I guess nobody does, probably why the brain protects itself by making anything shown on the tv seem unreal.

I have not watched the news, or listened to it on the radio, purposefully for years -exactly for this reason. Even when there are not tragedies striking they have to sensationalize everything. I will access what I want to access on the Internet to find out what I want to find out and then I'm done with it. I did listen to the radio for a brief while yesterday because I did not have access to a computer when this happened. After about 10 minutes, I was done. It's about all I can handle anymore.

ChasingShadows and Jen, I really think we are in the minority here for the news. I think most people don't care and just watch it. When I tell most people I don't like the news nor do I watch it they act like I am some sort of mutant. Then they usually promptly tell me I must be an idiot who doesn't know what's going on in the world. No, I read the news and know what's going on, I just prefer to not see the videos and pictures of all the violence and death. Maybe it's because I saw enough death and violence while in the military... I have a different perspective I guess having seen combat first hand, I have a more personal appreciation for what that stuff means and I don't just equate a blast from a bomb with some random people I probably don't know getting hurt or killed. I have the screaming, the smell, the sound, and the visions of that stuff permanently embedded in my memory.

I only watched for a bit, then turned it off - it was getting into that repetitive news cycle, with no new information. I'm following it on the internet because I'm interested in who actually did this and why (not that there's going to be a good reason, but still). But I even have to take a break from the internet because everyone gets so bogged down in conspiracy theories and political statements and whatnot - sort of makes me lose hope for humanity.

I fully admit that I'm a bit of a news junkie. But as with Black Beard, the repetitive cycle on cable news can drive a man insane. In situations like this I have found Drudge to be a good clearing house of up to date info, lots of site there to look at and decide what you want to read.

That Mr. Rogers quote has been making rounds today, it has got to be one of the best pieces of advise you can give a child.

I'm also a member of this minority group - I don't have a television for exactly the above mentioned reasons: I think it's just horrible and indecent to watch the suffering and dying of other people!
Listening to the radio is slightly more bearable!

And again, barefoot runners are such rebels. We have not had our TV in about 7 years. :)

I love modern technology for letting me watch what I want, when I want, online. I hated the fact I was watching rubbish, just because there was nothing decent on when I was in a telly mood. Think it must be about 7 or 8 years since I've had a tv. Of course books are also good for entertainment on demand :)

No cable or Dish here, just rabbit ears on a cathode ray.
