This week I am running on Wed, Fri and doing the Run Through Redlands 5k on Sun. So I set out this morning. It is much cooler than it has been. I don't do well with cooler weather, especially my footsies who like to be nice and toasty, so I wasn't even sure I was going to be taking my VFF's off at the half way point.
I take off on my 5 min warm up walk noticing that my left arch feels a bit tight or achy or something. No worries, it'll feel right as it warms up. Walk over time to run for 28 min. The first half felt like torture. I felt slower than even normal which is saying a lot since I am really slow to begin with. Felt like a draft horse plodding along, but keep going. My arch isn't feeling warm or better. At the half way point I take off the VFF's and turn around to head home. Ahhhh much better. The arch achiness stuff goes away and I feel lighter, steps quicker. It is really hard for me to believe that something as minimal as my VFF's can make that much of a difference in my form. Really? Or maybe it was just me, who knows. I mean, I ran in them this winter and didn't start having issues until I started transitioning out of them again.
Anyway, second half of my run is fun, feels great, moving along concentrating on my nose breathing which is going well and leaving me much less thirsty. I love it when my feet touch the ground! Run over, time for me to walk for 5 min as cool down. That is when I notice my arch is still bothering me. Ugh. About half way through my cool down walk, only a block or so from home and I stub my big toe. Same freaking one I messed up last year with a turf toe type of injury. I am soooo glad I was only walking this time. So now I'm home with ice on my arch and toe and really, really hoping neither area causes me trouble. I've wanted to do the Run Through Redlands since I moved to the area last year.
