Success!

I have been running on all sorts of evil things this last week, barefoot, but only for about 5 minutes at a time -gravel, trails, asphalt- just getting a feel for it. The gravel knocked any urge to push off right out of me -lol. I wanted to run barefooton a trail formy first time, however, after scoping some out I realized that I did not enjoy the thought of having to concentrate on inclines and declines and getting around super sharp rocks, and form, all at once. If I could find a flat, non-rocky trail, then maybe. The other problem is, the closest place to run from my house (without driving) is a road, asphalt. So...today was my first REAL barefoot run, for one mile, on asphalt. The bottom of my feet donot hurt at all, undoubtedly an indicator of good form. I know this for sure because the other day I justwalked on asphalt and was apparently pushing off as I did so, because the soles of my feet were basically burning the rest of the day. I am like totally giddy now!!! I am looking forward to returning to my former running schedule of 3 days a week. Eventually I will put one day of trail running back in. I am really looking forward to stubbing my first toe on the trails, barefoot! Lol.

congrats Jen. if you're really looking forward to stubbing your toe then i can help make that happen. don't know why you would though. yes, i know you're being your sarcastic self, for those who don't know you i am pointing this out.

There is nothing quite like bashing your heel into a sharp rock, it certainly perks up the concentration. I have done it a few times on a rocky trail near the beach, I'll probably tackle it tomorrow once more.

Declines are tough as it is hard to control your landing. I ran a 16km race in March that had around 900 steps along it, up and down gravel hills, on the return leg, as I got tired I hit my heel on more and more sharp stones.

Maybe next year I'll be better on gravel.

Keep it up.

Neil

Thanks Mike...what would I do without you (watch Jen whip out her 50 page list). You are, after all, a Professional Toe-Stubber. ;)

Yeah declines are of the devil. I have started to do some quad exercises, in preparation!

stub my toes unless i'm wearing shoes thank you very much. i do however kick many roots and rocks with the balls of my feet. get it straight.
