Right, then…
OK, maybe it’s time to list the “guy” movies, so we all know what they are. Now – this is not to say that women cannot/should not/will not watch these, but there seems to be a group of movies that bridges all genres that are sort of “guy” movies – either due to being particularly funny (Airplane!), entirely quotable (Airplane! Fletch, The Big Lebowski), or just being pure, sheer awesome (Dirty Harry, Man On Fire).
There are points where the line gets a little fuzzy. Romantic comedies are generally off the list, but we can include “Something’s Gotta Give” because Jack Nicholson is in it (and Amanda Peet……uh, where was I?).
You will note that things like Transformers and the Fast and/or Furious are not on the list. I’m sure they’re fine for their fans, but I don’t think folks will be listing them on forums 10, 15 or 20 years from now…
So, here goes in no particular order. Add to the list as you see fit.
The Big Lebowski
Airplane! (1 and 2)
Smokey and the Bandit (1 only)
The Godfather 1 and 2 (not 3; never 3)
The Dirty Harry series
The Whole Nine Yards
The Cannonball Run
Hooper
Anchorman
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Grosse Pointe Blank
Blazing Saddles
Young Frankenstein
History of the World Pt I
Casino
Goodfellas
Animal House
Fargo
Get Shorty
Ghostbusters
Fight Club
The Shining
The Vacation series (except European)
