I saw that article, too. It reminded me of a segment on persistence hunting on Life of Mammals. The BBC has been kind enough to put it on YouTube.

It's hard to tell, but I think the runner does use a forefoot strike. The longest view of him running seems to be from above, at 3:47. They're all wearing clunkers, but this was shot in 2002.

The hunting is simply amazing. I'm astounded at the part when he puts himself in the kudu's situation and deduces in which direction it ran.
