I have a pain at the inside edge of my heal. It gets sore when I stand for extended periods of time, it sometimes hurts on steps, and never hurts during runs (or after).

I thought it was from a gravel trail run I attempted, but it doesn't seem to be going away. It is a dull ache and gets a little sharper when I stand on it for a while. It is not tender to the touch at all, even if I squeeze it.

Does this sound like PF? I spend most of my time bare foot, some time I have socks, and some time in terrible dress shoes for work. I have never had these pains before, even when I ran in my old raised heel running shoes.

Thanks

Do you feel it more in your arched dress shoes?

Sounds similar to mine, although mine has gotten bad enough that I can now push on the painful spot and feel pain. For me it seems calf stretches and some light rolling and I can relatively manage it with only the occasional bad flare up instead of all the time.

Well, you can read about the classic PF symptoms - hurts more in the mornings, hurts less when you're warmed up. There's all sorts of complicated tendons, ligaments, facia, and muscles in the bottom of your foot. It's a wonder (and I really mean that) that the damn thing works as well as it does.

If you think you landed hard on a rock, it could well be trauma.

I notice it more when barefoot actually.

Mark,

sounds like PF. need to strengthen foot and get collagen realigned.

the video and article from Running Times that Jay Dicharry and i did has some good techniques. the reason it feels better running is you are getting the collagen gliding again...then it gets sticky after you rest/sleep.

flex and extend your foot at least 20 times before getting out of bed in morning.

Dr. Mark, do you have a link for that article? Thanks. When you say extend your foot do you mean point your toes?

Thanks I will give it a go.

I must say it feels great today, I spent some time in the ocean body surfing (and fighting the Riptide) and running around in the sand with my daughter.
