that's not plastic, TJ, that's titanium ... they're all titanium. I don't know why the one I have is blue in the pic, and I don't know if it's actually blue in my neck... huh. I was thinking it was just for the pic.

The American ones are stainless steel and look like something leftover in the box after you assemble an Ikea bookshelf...
 
I was talking about the silver metal one that looked like a clamp. I not likey that one.
 
Yes, that one looks a whole lot less painful than that other one.
 
Here in the U.S. they're big on PEEK as the artificial material of choice when fusion is in order. They put the bone taken from the patient's hip or from a bone bank into the polyether ether ketone (a thermoplastic) hardware and secure it in place w/ titanium threaded screws.
I like the idea of a dynamic device like yours much better.
