These are pictures of my sister Barbara running track in middle school. She's in the orange shirt...and yes, orange pants, er, uh, bell bottoms. (Miss those pants!) I didn't really think much of her running barefoot when I set about this journey, but then I do recall thinking she did so because we were poor and couldn't afford running shoes. Apparently, it was common for kids to run barefoot on the track team in southern California back in the 70s, as you will notice the girls in the red and purple shirts are also barefoot. If memory serves me right, she won all of her races too.
