5.75km run on Tuesday morning. Bit damp underfoot & not very many other runners out (think I counted 5 altogether).
Had a gym session yesterday evening and am intending to attempt a local 10k race over the weekend (mad fool;)...), the race briefing note mentions gravel , so fingers & toes crossed for a good one...:barefoot:

    5 miles Tuesday.
    5 miles Thursday.
Warm 10 mile run this morning at 5:30 am., 77 deg. f. 78% rh..
Cool sliver of a moon but you could see the rest of I in the shadow. We also had a great sunrise.

Did the 10k race that I'd been aiming to do on Sunday -part of the Draycote Water Summer series. Not a big event -just 150 runners, but very efficiently organised and a nice run around quite a large lake (basically 1 lap).
The pre-race briefing warned of gravel on certain sections, with the rest being 'smooth tarmac'. In reality the gravel parts weren't too bad at all, but the smooth tarmac was in fact mostly chipseal:rolleyes:... So took it steady throughout & was pleased to finish in just under the hour mark.
In hindsight the surface perhaps made me concentrate on form more than I might otherwise have done -so legs, feet, etc... (i.e. body in general!) all feeling pretty good afterwards.
Might do the race again later in the Summer...:)

It's really weird but, yeah, my feet get less beat up on chipseal than smoother paved surfaces. It's that harsh texture that really encourages as little lateral friction as possible so while each step feels less comfortable than it would on smooth over the miles my feet fare much better.

45 miles for me last week. 18 of those were yesterday but all in my Luna Orignen sandals as it was on harsh gravel. Did a 5K fun run/library fundraiser Saturday unshod and still can't break 21:00. My splits were all pretty even, though, so not too surprising that my pace would be more even without much improvement in speed as 100% of my focus has been on longer runs not speed this year.

Oddly enough I can't break 21.00 either -nor 22.00, 23.00, or 24.00 etc... for that matter;).... I reckon you'd need to give me a 5 minute head start -then I might have a chance!...:)

You sound like my 6yo son when he challenges me to a race. He runs out away from me and after 30-40 yards tells me "go, Dad! I beat you!"
