I don't know what the medical term is, but I got the worst end of a relationship with a volcanic rock. Living in the Canary Islands, I learned very early in barefoot running that stepping on glass was a delight compared to sharp volcanic stones. However, I had a "run in" with a volcanic rock.
I was just starting to go out on a gentle run on a sandy & lightly stony path, when I stepped down on the corner of a volcanic rock that was protruding out of the sand. There are lots of kinds of volcanic rocks and this was the sharp charcoal-like kind. On stepping down on the corner of the rock, it nipped the skin right open and left a chunk of skin dangling from my foot.
I trimmed off the dangling skin, washed the foot as well as I could and I have been wearing a band-aid with triple antibiotic ointment. I change the bandaid every 8 hours. The skin around the "opening" is wet & soft from the bandaid.
I would GREATLY appreciate and be so very
thankful for any advice or recommendations to help it repair itself quickly & completely. It looks like a horrible blister that blew open very deeply, but I am not sure if there is more or less that I should be doing.
PS I am glad it is Holy Week (spring break) and wouldn't been training with my shod friends any way ... as I'd like to keep it a secret from them, so they do not have ammunition against barefoot running!
