What a strange place to put a finish line. The race director must love being on the defensive end of lawsuits. What's more, here's where being a shod runner would REALLY put you at a disadvantage. At least as a barefooter you tend to be watching the ground a bit more; as a shod runner, not so much, so the likelihood that you wouldn't even see that thing goes up. Add shoes to the fact that lots of folks are checking their watches at this point in a race and you have the perfect conditions for asphalt nose. Amazing.
