Certainly some ignorant comments, weren't there? I truly hope that the commenter who said the government needs to step in and regulate appropriate footwear was joking...
I liked the sarcasm in this one and the logical extensions he makes:
"Some of the proponents may be well meaning but this is yet another anti-wellness idea. The human foot needs large, solid, heavy shoes with a thick sole to protect it, just as we need a strong, authoritative government to protect us from the vicissitudes of life!
Podiatrists are already abuzz over the increased injuries from barefoot running and so-called minimalist footwear such as the '5 fingers' shoes.
We need federal standards. We've accepted the common sense idea of helmet laws. It is time for footwear laws as well, to keep these barefoot advocates from injuring themselves."
