barefoot running helping with calf rehab

I am 42 years old and I have always been a runner. I spent years gradually building up the level of support in my shoes to combat repeated calf strains. Nothing worked and in the end I sat one day with my head in my hands and gave up.
I discovered Danny Dreyer's Chi running book ditched the shoes (at least for some of the time) and after a few false starts I am running and smiling again. I have changed my power running style with its huge push off to a lifting technique.
I have never had a knee problem but my calves have always given me grief.
About a month ago, I got carried away and was trying to run as fast as possible, became complascent and reverted to the old style. 3 steps to the line and my calf went again. Stupid, stupid, stupid ! Running barefoot means that my technique during rehab is good and I am back running much sooner than normal.
I read lots of things about the calves being a limiting factor when beginning barefooting but for me they are the biggest beneficiary.
Is there anyone else out there with the same sort of experience?
