Also introducing barefoot running categories in all of the events

The Malcolm Campbell Trophy (1 mile timed event

Do you feel the need for speed?
In February 1927 Malcolm Campbell broke the land speed record travelling at 174.22 mph on Pendine Sands.
This race honours this achievement, allowing competitors to run a straight mile, following the same tracks as his famous Blue Bird car. In conjunction with The Malcolm Campbell Bluebird Trust, all finishers will receive a certificate, noting their times and signed for authenticity by Gina Campbell or Don Wales (grandson of Malcolm Campbell) and UK record holder for the fastest Land Speed electric car.
The Pendine 10k

All on the beach. The sand is quite compact and will provide a firm footing. 5k out and then 5k back.
The Pendine half marathon

Consists of a single lap which is all on the beach and very flat. Commencing at Pendine, along the beach towards Ginst Point, and then return back to Pendine.
The Pendine Ultra Marathon

Consists of two laps of our determined course, actual distance of just over 32 miles. Commencing with a seven mile run along Pendine Sands to Ginst Point, continuing along the coast to Broadwas, then returning back through Tremoilet Farm and finally back to the start / finish point at Pendine Sands, where you complete the route again.

Pendine Facilities

Plenty of accommodation options here, from camping, caravanning, b&b, hotel. Likewise for eateries.
Parking is available on the beach at the vehicle owners risk at a cost of £3.00 per car. Alternative car parking, off beach, is available within Pendine also at about £3.00 per day.
Pendine Sands Race Rules

The Pendine Ultra commences with a seven mile stretch of flat sand, (the Pendine Sands), followed by a loop back towards the start location along lanes with some off road running, the total loop being approximately sixteen miles. (The Ultra runners will complete two loops). The Pendine Half Marathon, 10k and mile races are all just on the sands of Pendine. For competitors own safety and fairness the following rules must be adhered to. Failure to comply with these rules may result in disqualification from this and future events.
The Event

The Pendine Races are organised by Ultra Running Limited and are open to runners, walkers, teams of three or more, and relay teams of maximum four. All Ultra, and Half Marathon entrants must be 18 years of age or over at the start of the race. 10k entrants must be 16 years of age or over. The Mile event is open to all age categories. Ultra competitors must ensure that they carry with them all of their individual requirements needed to complete the race.
Every entrant must confirm that they have read these rules and other event information and therefore understand the nature of the event and that participation is at their own risk.

Race Entries

Competitors must register on-line prior to the event day for all races, with the exception of the mile races which can be entered on the day. However it is requested that large groups, such as school parties, entering the mile races, register before the event.
On the day registrations for the Ultra, Half Marathon & 10k, for signing in and race numbers will be open at 8.00am at the start location and will close at 9.30am. Ultra competitors will present their kit for examination on request.
Each participant will be given a race number which must be clearly attached by safety pins, one to the back and one to the front chest. If this is not clearly visible you may be delayed at checkpoints.
All Teams must have pre-registered before the day and consist of at least two competitors who will also count as individual competitors amongst the rankings. Relay team members in categories 2 – 4; all originally designated members of a Relay Team must complete the leg they have chosen, and the following team member must not start the race until the person they are handing over from has arrived at that CP station.
Checkpoint details and maps (available to registered contestants only)
Competitors must be self-sufficient, and Ultra competitors must carry the following mandatory items:
1. Backpack or equivalent
2. Head Torch with spare batteries
3. Ordnance Survey Map of the route (our downloadable maps are fine)
4. Compass or GPS device
5. Whistle
6. Mobile phone
7. Emergency food pack consisting of two chocolate bars, Mars or similar
8. First Aid Kit
Checkpoints and Water Stations.

The Pendine Races should be viewed as totally self-sufficient races with the exception of water supply. Water stations are located at all checkpoints at pre-determined points along the race route. However some CP stations may have some nutritional nibbles to help you on the way.
Ultra and Half Marathon competitors must go through all check points and it is their sole responsibility to ensure that the check point attendant has recorded their race number; failure to do so at any check point will mean the competitor has failed to complete the race and will be disqualified.
Any competitor found to not follow the pre-determined race route will be disqualified.
Competitor Retirement

If any competitor has to retire for whatever reason they must contact the race organisers immediately, either by advising a checkpoint attendant or by telephoning the emergency number which will be written on the race numbers of each competitor.
Time Restraints

The Pendine Ultra consists of two 16 mile loops. The organisers want to give every competitor the opportunity of completing the race and will, where reasonable practicable, allow generous opening times of CP Stations; the allowance should be within the ability of a walker at 3.5 miles per hour
Accommodation

Pendine has excellent camping, hotel, and b&b facilities. If any competitors require these services we will happily provide a list of suitable establishments. It is requested that these facilities are respected and all litter etc. is removed by the responsible competitor.
This service is provided also for any family member or supporter who wishes to attend the event.
