So I agreed to run a half-marathon with my sister and mother in September. I haven't been training much for it at all so I thought that I would get some miles on my feet and go for a walk/run with my kiddos in the double stroller.
I had planned on going to a local trail because it is shady and not as crowded in the summer as going down to our local dam. I remembered that it was about 4 miles round trip and decided to go barefoot and take my VFF's as backup. The run started off well and my pace was slow but steady. I kept running and noticed that the run seemed so much longer than 2 miles. By the time I got to the turn around I realized that it was 4 miles ONE WAY!

My poor feet are all torn up now but I am happy to report that my feet are the only things sore.

They'll recover fast, and be tougher than ever! Think you guys will do a three generation half one day?

Yep sometimes we must be carefull about route planning, especially when building up mileage. I know many dont like gps watches and the like, but this is a good example why I like mine. While many say your body will tell you when its getting tired, if your doing an out and back you need to know to turn around long before your body tells you! If your still feeling fine when you get back you can always head out for a little more.

Hopefully its just soreness and will pass! Thats the one nice thing about barefoot running I think, better for the feet to be a little sore or soles tender, rather than shin splints or other more serious injury. It seems the feet getting sore is a minor thing, and it lets you know you shouldnt push on much more. Shoddies dont get that first warning sign.

Where is the embarrassed face? I HAVE a gps watch and was wearing it but off in my own world. My feet are doing substantially better today and I may attempt a short run in a day or two.

I am using Mapmyrun on my android phone and I like the option for it to announce intervals - I've got it set to tell me every quarter mile. So yesterday when I was on a path I hadn't run before, I knew when to turn back.
