I love tech stuff (total geek), but...

My Garmin tells me that my right foot makes ground contact 51% and my left 49% give or take 0.2%. It's incredibly consistent but what am i supposed to do with those numbers? Should i aim for 50/50? But how am i to figure out if the discrepancy is in my quads, my hamstrings, my femur lengths, my tibias, my fibulas, etc., etc.? None of us are symmetrical so why bother?

I was consistently around 49/51 before my IT band issue and now that i've fixed the IT band issue i'm still at those exact same figures. So obviously nothing to do with IT band issues.

And then there's vertical oscillation - 6.9cm this morning, so? What does that do for me knowing this? I run as smooth as i can and that's all i can do. I felt this morning's run was the best run i've done in my life, and the fastest 10km since my 20's (i'm 52). I suppose i can pat myself on the back if it goes down to 6cm next time.

Mostly, i think some of these metrics are a great selling point, marketing. I don't see what help is having shoes telling me what my feet are doing when i can feel what my feet are doing if i don't have the shoes on in the first place.

That's not to say i'm not a fan of metrics, i've found a lot of metrics to be very helpful, but there is a limit.

I suppose if you're a pro athlete with sport physiologists and human bio-scientists analysing every motion that you do then they may be of help.

PS... if the price comes down to something i can afford i may buy a pair just for fun - i am a geek after all is said and done. LOL :D

exactly. i still find my daily running as a fun activity. even i could run just with my bare soles and simple shirts and pants with no compression at all. pretty much geek, too.. in some times i used to find my running stats rushing my blood to do another run. but just that is. cause i hate those days when i can't run just because all my shoes are wet. after finding these barefoot stuff, no more excuses for running. even you forget to recharging the phone for next run tracking, in the most basis, running is just run

It seems that people who run shod load themselves up with all the bells and whistles, then as they strip down to bare feet, they start ditching all the nonsense, as it's truly not necessary. Shod runners want to look like runners. Barefoot runners want to feel like runners.

Remember, I just post this stuff so you guys can rant, er uh, talk about it.

Yeah! :D

It did strike me after i posted my last that these things would be useless to barefooters because as soon as we put sh!t on our feet we're not going to run the same anyway so any metrics would be pointless in the extreme. They would only be of any use to anyone who ran in the exact same thing.
