Trails

I was just chuckling at my last entry. So in the summer I had gone on several trail runs, but I was barely eeking out a mile on pavement at the time, so they were fairly torturous runs.

The last trail run I had gone on in the summer, it had just rained for the first time after a long dry spell, and there were these gigantic sporadicpuddles everywhere. I dodged them all cuz I didn't want to fall and my hips did not like this. So I decided not to do trails.

However, whenI had been hiking on the trails recently, I noticed they were evenly wet now without as many gigantic puddles, so I figured I should give the trails a shot again. Plus, my base run on pavement was now 3 miles and I was a lot stronger. So I went on two trail runs with my buddy Mike, and it was surprisingly easy to run on!And I had ZERO unusual pain or misalignment afterwards! It was SO FUN!!! The first day we went 4 miles and the second day, the next week, we went 5 miles. It didn't even seem like we were out there as long as we were. That's in part because it's SO FUN and concentrating on the ground and talking to Mike makes time fly.

There was an incident, whereI passed a little old lady with a cane, I was fairly close to her and wanted to make sure I wasn't about to kick her cane out fromunder her, and I looked away from the ground...and wham! I cracked my toe into a root. Ironically it was the exact same toe I did that to last summer. Exceptlast summer, I am certain I fractured the lower joint in it, this time, Ijust bruised the upper joint and it was fine after 3 days. The scar tissue in the lower joint probablyprotected it. Maybe I shouldfracture all of my toe joints to make them stronger. NOT.

So I ama freaking trail running addict now. I want tostart doing two long-ass trail runs a week, regularly.IT'S SO FUN!!!

so far that's two of you we turned into trail freaks. the plan is working.

With my love for the mountains, I'd run nothing but trails forever if it was an option. I'm out in the flatlands of NC now, so I don't see many hills or trails. I'm glad you've got some good places to go; enjoy them all the more knowing there are those of us out here who don't have that wonderful option often.

Mike - you were supposed to insert an evil cackle at the end of your statement.

Yeah, I am very happy to live in Oregon with all it's natural beauty! I love being outdoors!
