Long beach run

Friday ran 7.5 miles from Pine point beach past Old Orchard Beach pier and back barefoot. Some calf stiffness last 3 miles but otherwise terrific. Liked changing up cadence while running around children, sandcastles, dogs and incoming tide. Cooled feet and calves in the ocean and dined at Bayley's Seafood.

Two shod trail runs since (12 and 5.5 miles) and my left foot is acting messed up. Have had stress fractures to both feet (left: late November through December '10 and right: late February - April '11) previously. Even took 2 days off after 12 mile run. Almost feel like being mildly to painfully injured is just part of being a runner.

Hoping next trail run the foot begins to toughen up/heal itself.

You run on the beach sounds great, esp the ending part!

Whenever our bodies complain we ought to listen so that we can run more tomorrow. Be well!

Thanks for the encouragement. Wonder how often caution is advised and then goes unheeded. This time it worked out well.

Ran on some gnarly trail today thinking "I probably should let my foot rest another day". Had a great excuse though: new Inov-8 Roclite 285's. Lucky me the foot didn't hurt at all, must be the shoes. Also drank a Moxie soda before the run. The shoes fit my feet perfectly, thankfully even my heel as I ran sockless. Ended up with a little blistering on back of both heels. Any other shoes on that terrain and I'd of been bloody.

Now to get back to some beach barefootin'.

Happy trails,
