First Week!

I just completed my first week barefoot. I did 8.5 miles! I feel awesome! My favorite part of the week was when this dude (who passed me while running) literally "glared" at me -and I know it was cuz of the shoes, but I am not sure why he felt it necessary to glare. I think it may have been the "What are you? A dumbass?" glare. Lol. I formerly ran in VFFs. I definitely do notice a difference between VFF and BF. Primarily, I feel like I have a lot more control over my form when BF. I can't wait to start doing more trail running!

Wouldn't you think that in Portland (of all the weirdohippy places) it would have caught on more by now? Lol. I have never seen anyone barefoot other than "us".

Like you my partner and I routinely get odd / questioning / dirty looks when out running either BF or in huaraches. Rather than be put off by such a response we tend to find it rather amusing. It is to us a reminder of how truly conformist society has become on a whole host of levels. I mean really what is the big deal and last time I checked they were our feet...;).

In some ways she and I have become immune to such looks as we have been living with such reactions, thankfully less frequently in recent years, as a result of being an out same sex couple (now married... yea..). Perhaps this has been good preparation for our transition to BF/minimalist running.

Congrats, JL! Focus on the kindness and return a smile to the ugliness. ;-)

Congratulations! I just finished my 3rd week. I've had a few odd looks and a couple of chuckles but no glares yet... I did have a neighbor stop her riding lawnmower and just watch me go by in amazement though... that was fun. :)

Happy running!
