Caving...

I run in VFF. I have been running in them for several months.

About 3 weeks ago I really got into working on my form per Ken Bob's book: Not pushing off, relaxed, head up, fast cadence, leading with my hips. And I got all of that down.

Then...I started working on allowing my heel to come down. And something went wrong. I "think" I was not relaxed enough as I let my heel down, and then it suddenly dropped. Also, about a week prior,I had changed from running every other day (about 3 miles) to every day (1-1.5 miles) and my calves were a bit tighter than normal. Anyway, I felt something "crackle" under my left ankle bone. I did not feel acute pain, for about a day. And then...my ankle began to swell right under the ankle bone. And I noticed a tiny little red spot, that when touched, cause incredible pain. And it was very tender. It would always be fine in the morning, but got swollen during the day, when I was up.

I was pretty peeved, as patience is NOT my virtue. Most people follow R.I.C.E.but I don't, cuzmyN.D. doesn'tand I follow him. So...I did what movement I could right from the day it happened, stretching, rotating my ankle, etc. I could not put full weight on it for quite some time. On day 6 I was finally able to put full weight on it, and that night the swelling and pain completely disappeared.

Then I was left with the next challenge. Building strength back up. I walked about 10 minutes every day. I also did this yogaish move where I stand and rock back and forth while keeping my feet flat on the ground. I also did calf exercises and knee exercises. That is what I spent all of last week doing.

So while all of this was going on,I was lucky enough toseeKenBob speak in Portland. I kept reviewing my Ken Bob book. Ispentmore time reading other blogs and picking people's brains about BFR.

And I finally decided...toput away the VFFs. And actually go barefoot.

I have decided that trails would bethe best place to start.
