2nd Hurache (Invisible Shoe) Run

On 2 days rest I did a 2nd run in my Invisible Shoe Huaraches. I ran the same 3K loop referenced in the previous blog entry. The run was as good, if not a bit better than the first. I even managed to shave about 30 seconds off of my previous time, without any noticable increase in perceived effort.

I did notice that my cadence was for the most part closer to the 180 PPM ideal. My stride also seemed a bit smoother with a few delicioius moments where it felt like I was floating on air. Sadly those moments were only fleeting and my morton's foot intruded into my consciousness as I tired. All in all though I was happy with this run and even if these early results are of course preliminary, I am still encouraged. Hopefully I will continue to progress with the aid of my huaraches.

I am also hopeful that the plan to run a 1 mile race in huraches at the end of the month is also successful.

TTFN,

Jenn

I never did figure out how to run in my huaraches. Walk in them everywhere, but if I need to do some real running, off they come. Good on you if you can make them work. Just make sure that you aren't pushing yourself too hard in them.

You'll get there, Jenn. Sounds like you're finding enjoyment in it anyways, and that's what really matters, not the end but how we get there, right?

Danjo & TJ:

For me huaraches were the 'secret sauce' that allows BF/Minimalist running to work. Unlike my partner I have had difficulty getting in consistant and frequent totally barefoot runs. As such my feet have remained a 'tad' tender. This left me sort of deadlocked in a place where I was stuck conditioning my feet and not much else.

Now that I am running in my huaraches I have been able to progress both in 'perfecting' my stride and increasing my distance and speed. While I am still conscious of TMTS, this has allowed me to progress in a way I was not when running totally barefoot. That said I am sure I would have got there without the huaraches, just not as soon.

Last night Emma & I wnet out for a run and I did 4K for the first time since ditching my Asics. We ran at about a 8 minute K pace which for me is very slow but you know it was a lot of fun. While I don't see myself becomming totally non competitive perhaps the transition to BF/minimalist running will afford me another way to look at running. In essence perhaps I can now look at the passing scenery instead of my stopwatch... sometimes...:)
