A new fossil discovery is suggesting that Australopithecus afarensis ("Lucy's" species) had an arched foot--unlike modern apes who have flat feet. The arch really helps with walking and running. I think it's pretty neat that such an important part of our foot's anatomy had already developed in our ancestors over 3 million years ago.

The New Scientist blog post about it is here.

Lucy probably stood on 2 feet, didn't she? So cool, so human!
