Not really running related but this is my other passion, digital sculpture.
It would also be nice to here about others non running related passions, skills, pass times.
Just in case you wondered the guy with a beard is a self-portrait.
The mask is of Johnny Cash in his later years, looks a bit strange without hair
The creature is from a pen and ink concept by Douglas Carrell that I translated into 3d
The landscapes are also digital sculpture, nothing is real, just stuff from my crazy mixed up head.

Incredible! What about that little critter in your avatar? Did you make him too?

I've drawn traditionally most of my life, but digitally I started about 1o years ago.

Yup, the little critter is my own creation, his eyes are also animated, scanning the pie but animated gifs don't seem to work here. I do a lot of toon stuff, here's crazy horse.

And a more traditional type 2d painting

I'm glad you like them people.

I love them guys! They are so cute! How do you use them in your work? What do they do for you? Do you give up your creative rights to it if you sell it to someone else? How does that work?

This is just a hobby for me T.J. a technical challenge if you will, just trying to keep the grey matter turning over.;)
For me to sculpt a realistic bust I first have to understand what lies beneath the skin, muscle groups, bone structure and general goo that we are made from, I then have to try and bring emotion into a character, explore personalities, moods, the stuff that makes us individuals. Add to that the technical challenge of software, an understanding of light, colour, proportion and composition.... well the list goes on, but hopefully you can see why Its something that inspires me.
My trade is in graphics, which is very different from this kind of thing but I often do illustrations for packaging and the like.
The intellectual rights to a project are usually written into a contract that both parties agree to. None of the stuff I do is copy protected I'm just happy to share my doodles.

Here's the first 3d character I ever did

    Your wish
Another one of Jake the Dog followed by his side-kick Clive and Clive after a session on his home made hooch.
A Saberoo, haven't put him into a scene yet but was my first attempt at fur
    And lastly the Folly.

Saberoos would be the deadliest creatures on the planet - you'd be too busy laughing to even attempt to run until it was far too late!
    These are fabulous!

Wow, that's impressive. I struggle with stick figures. :)

How much time goes into one of those creations?

I really like the Johnny Cash mask! Like a death mask? The closed eyes take on an epicanthic cast, making him appear to be like a Buddist monk.
    Very cool stuff, indeed. Thanks!

What's your avatar's name? I've seen you have him for your avatar before but different ones.

Have you ever thought about capturing the essence of the BRS and or barefoot running in character form? If you did, what would it be like? Would you, for us? I would love to see what you come up with. It would be nice to have. I couldn't pay you what you are worth. And I know that's asking a lot, so feel free to say no.

I had a think about your request T.J. and came up with Barefoot Pooch. I certainly wouldn't want payment for anything, or have you feel obliged to use anything I do. I just would rather keep it a hobby that I'm happy to share with the community if that's o.k. :)
Here's what I've got so far. Ignore the pose, he is positioned that way for technical reasons that will make things easier to manage further down the line.
I've constructed him the traditional 3D way out of polygons, something that is called a base mesh, similar to the way Pixar would create a character. This way give me freedom to pose the character in any position, from running to lifting weights or anything else you can think of, but I'll explain more about that when I get to that stage.
My next job is to cut up the mesh and flatten it out, in essence taking the 3D model and making it 2D so i can easily paint textures for him in a standard paint program that can then be re-projected onto the 3D model.
The tail that looks like someone shoved a broom stick up where the sun don't shine will eventually be bushy and covered with fur, so pay not attention it's all just forward planning for later stages.
I chose a pooch because many of the community members seem to have four legged lodgers, but I made him bipedal, and slightly humanized, there is a word for it that escapes me for now. Three toes and three fingers and a thumb is the standard for cartoon characters like these and not an oversight on my part in case you were wondering. I'll post further progress as I get the time if you're interested.
