Mike, blisters on the toes can also be caused from gripping the ground with your toes. I do this sometimes and I have to consciously think about relaxing the toes.
Ive been working on that too!! two runs now one 2.5 with some trail and no blisters, then 3.6 today and so far not missing skin.blisters are not only a sign of soft skin but bad form. blisters on your toes means you're pushing off and can be tough for people to unlearn. you're going to have to decide what's most important to you and go for it. learning to run bf or getting in the mileage.
