This week has been a mix of good and bad for me. And I have a 10k race tomorrow so I hope the week ends on the good side rather than bad! But unfortunately there is a chance of rain... hope it holds off.
So lets see, Monday I did my first duathlon training. I haven't fully committed yet, but there is a duathlon in July that I was debating on trying. I've done many run & bike combos, but just casually. This time I set out to do it quickly and similar to duathlon, with the exception of a warmup and cooldown which were each about 1/2 to a mile of walking and slow run. The first leg was a 2 mile run, and my splits were 7:22 and 6:40. Then with only a pause to gulp down some water I hopped on the bike and did 10 miles. Unfortunately my Endomondo app on the phone kicked me out of the workout somehow and didn't save any of the info except for 2.9mi for some reason. So not sure how fast I went. I was really upset since this was going to be the baseline to see how I progress. Oh well. Then again I immediately parked the bike and took off running again for 5k. Definitely felt much slower! But still splits weren't too bad... 7:45, 7:33, 7:27.
Tuesday I went on a splendid trip up to the Holmes County Trail, through Ohio's Amish country. Biked around 18 miles, checking out the trail for my 10k tomorrow. Took some pics:
But disaster struck on my adventure! For the first time in many years I crashed. Luckily I wasn't going very fast but still, hitting asphalt hurts! I hit with the left side of body, shoulder took the brunt but the whole left side got nailed... road rash and bruising on shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, and actually 5 spots on the foot. Of course this happens at the turn around point - furthest from the trailhead. Bike was mostly alright, my shoulder broke its fall.
Just a very light scuff on the saddle and skewed the handlebars slightly to one side but still close enough to get back. I walked it off, and seemed to be good enough to go so headed back. Still stopped for several pics, pinky toe bleeding and all.
Wednesday I planned to run but decided to take a day off to let the injuries heal, though I decided later in the evening to hop on the bike for a few miles just to stretch out the legs (and I was a bit shy at first lol).
Thursday, still a bit sore, but decided I better make sure I can run ok for this race. Did 6 miles at moderate pace. Yeah, I can do it but not 100%. Some tightness in the foot, and shoulder and hip a bit sore still with the road rash still causing a little bit of pain as the shirt touches and moves on it. Hope its not so bad that it will affect my gate and cause some imbalances. Today I'll just be working around the house, perhaps finally planting a few things in the garden and mowing the lawn. Will try to get some walking in or maybe a short run.
