I think there is something to what you're saying, Jim. Perhaps because we do run barefoot, we are relying on the sense of touch and therefore any other senses we may need in combination get drowned out (hearing) which could affect our ability to decipher those important signals that come from our feet. We don't run on top of pillows (which already deaden the run enough as it is), so we better be in tune with our environment, not our music. Music is a distraction when running barefoot. Music is a distraction when running period and is being proven as such.
