The squat in the video is a variation of a Hindu Squat. A traditional squat is done by keeping your weight over your heels and not letting your knees go past your toes.

The squat in this video is going to work a lot more of your calf. If done wrong, you stand a good chance of screwing up your knees as well.

I wouldn't say that one way

I wouldn't say that one way is the "right" way. They are two different exercises. The Hindu squat works more calf than traditional squats, and is usually meant to be done more explosively for more plyometric strength.

I'm of the opinion that traditional squats are the foundation of any good workout program, so I'd rather recommend those over the alternative. If they are hard to do for you, that's reason in my mind for you to do more so that you get proficient at them. Train your weaknesses!

And I have no idea what that heel walking thing does. I don't really think you need to do exercises for barefoot running apart from just straight-up barefoot running. But that's just me.
