Blood blister in odd spot

My right foot has always been my nemesis, its had a variety of
issues since I started running again a year or so ago. I've always
written most problems off as TMTS, but I have one now that has
me thinking about seeing a doctor... tell me if I'm being paranoid:

I have a blood blister, or I think its that, and its deep, it extends
along a line from oh near the ball area back along the arch, and at
about the deepest part of the arch there is actually some pain if I
would poke at the skin. The pain is only in the one localized area
though, not the whole length of the discolored 'blister'.

I'm pretty sure this has appeared in the past and with time it disappeared
but now its back again. Its not really painful when I walk/run barefoot,
but like today at lunch I was going to run a 5K or so, but when looking at
it decided I would hold off.

Is this something to see a doctor about or what?

PS. I decided to go see my regular doctor who is also an osteopath and have
him take a look, that happens next week, but I'd still like to hear any useful
feedback here.

Funny how the brain works sometime.... as I woke up this morning I had a sudden
realization about this problem... ironic too because I actually posted about the event
elsewhere but for some reason it didn't connect with this.... what I realized is this
weird looking blood blister/bruise is from some days back when I stepped on a
marble-sized tree seed pod, it clearly did more internal damage than I might have
thought at the time but its now no big mystery and I'm confident it just needs
time to heal.

Sorry no docs came by to see you. It sounds like you found your answer though.

Its OK TJ, I'm fine, once I realized what it was I felt so good I went out
and ran 5 miles today, practically froze my poor hands off the first couple
miles but its always great to have dry sidewalks :)

Jaybird,

blood blisters from stone bruises, etc are part of the game. they always heal. these are not running injuries though so keep running barefoot if it feels good!

with the darkness and barefooting there is more risk for these things as we cannot see the stones.

Jay, I get a weird, maybe not a blister, but a worn spot, from the inside out. I've always gotten it when I run barefoot. The spot is not worn out the outside, more, it's like the met head wears it out from the inside. I just got back from a run and my feet are filthy, but I plan on taking a pic of it with my good camera after I shower and wash the feet. Curious to hear what the docs would say about it and if it is just something I am going to have to deal with if I want to run barefoot. It get's awfully tender and sensitive while running, but it really doesn't bother me to touch it. It's just sensitive I guess to debris and rough road.

NickW - I'd be curious to see this picture if you can take one of your foot the next time you run!

Hi Dr Emily,

I haven't been able to get a good picture with my good phone, but here is one with my Iphone. It is hard to tell, but there is no skin damage to the outside, that is all internal that you see there. It's like the met head rubs a hole from the inside out.
