My first bf marathon

Like my son told me “Slow and steady wins the race dad”. Well at least it gets you to the finish line. I knew I would be slow, but slow is a relative term. There is slow like a turtle then there is geologIc time slow. Seven signs that you are running slow.

7, You say goodbye to your running partner, even before the race starts.

6, You are passed by a guy wearing a hat the size of a small canoe, shaped like a dog.

5, Walkers pass you like you are standing still.

4, The race marshals tell you to get on the sidewalk because they are opening the road to traffic.

3,The people around you are concerned with the race cut off time, is it gun time or chip time?

2, The only thing you want at the aid station is a hug.

1, You look behind you and the only thing you see is a big official race van matching your pace and the driver yelling “you can do it”

It was great to experience the back of the pack and the amazing finish I received as I had the chute all to myself. Crossing the line I knelt down and kissed the ground. I finished with ten minutes to spare. I have done 11 half marathons,4 full marathons, one 52 k ultra, 5 half ironman and one full ironman. The goal was to finish this marathon barefoot, to experience something few have tried and many consider impossible.

Special thanks to Neil for running with me the last 800m and Ryan for all the barefoot runs.
