Lonely IBRD club :)

May 1st was a great day.

In the morning went to a community garden build wearing my IBRD shirt. Had many conversations throughout the day about what barefoot running means. Many people were well informed, others had never heard of barefoot running.

After 5 hours at the build (barefoot of course) I went for a 12 k run. Stopped and talked to one guy who was very interested. You know it is going to be a good conversation when the first question is " how long have you been barefoot running. The last 2 k was a conditioning chip seal run. You know you put in a good day after a little chip seal.

All in all an excellent day. Thanks to all the organizers.

Looking forward to a barefoot summer.

Cheers

I ran in my neigborhood, 10 miles. It was the first time I covered that distance barefoot, the other times I was wearing huaraches or watershoes.

I was hoping someone would initiate a conversation with me and I could talk about Barefoot running but the only person who approached me was a woman looking for her dog :-(

I have no problem runnign barefoot but I am too scared to do any construction or serious gardening without shoes. I'm always afraid of droping tools on my precious toes. Maybe if I was less clumsy....

I love your photo collage!

Congrats on your ten mile run. I am sure lots of people noticed you and it made them think.

Next year I hope to set up an official IBRD event, if I am not gardening all day.

If your feet are bare you because much more aware of people holding shovels.

Thanks PBarker for posting this, and to the others for adding your comments.

I, too, ran alone on IBRD, because I had to travel internationally that day and couldn't organize a run where I live (Bonn, Germany). As the main coordinator and the one who hatched the IBRD idea, I had been pondering the irony of the situation for several weeks prior to the event.

But, I had a beautiful run. I ran my usual "Bridge-Run", a 10Km along the Rhine river, which makes a loop by crossing two of Bonn's three bridges. It was a beautiful day, sunny and warm. Since it was a Sunday morning (about 7:30 am start), the Rhine-Promenade was nearly empty. It is frequently quite crowded, so I especially enjoy it when there are few people around. Just the pitter of the Rhine and the patter of my feet.

As I got down to the river, I had to contend with an extremely excited dog, who was walking with its owner and promptly started jumping all over me. The woman apologized and tried to little avail to get the dog under control. She said something about how the dog was excited at my bare feet. I wanted to get running, so I didn't bother to inquire further. Nevertheless, I thought, "Well, at least I have met one barefoot enthusiast today--even if it has likely never known shoes."

I, too, rather wanted to shout to everyone I passed that it was IBRD. But, I passed so few, and the shouting would have disturbed the tranquillity of the morning.

In the end, I figured that I might be running alone, but there would be hundreds running with me that day. That was satisfaction enough. At current count, over 300 people ran that day in groups, and at least 7 individually.

I have set up a page where individuals can post their runs. Please click here to do so. These numbers will be added to the official count. Look forward, too, to our summary report, which should be posted later this evening.

Cheers to all,

Thanks for the awesome job Paleo.

Unbelievable so many participated world wide.

I am putting it in my calendarfor next year so there will not be any scheduling conflicts.

It truly was. It all started as a whimsical idea, and I am just pleased as punch to see it become reality. I've had a perma-grin for days.

I also had a lot of help. Especially, TJ, but also Zapmamak, Stomper, AJB, and Jason Robillard. But, most of all, each of the local organizers really carried it off. Without them, it wouldn't have happened.

Mark your calender: May 6, 2012. We're gonna double the numbers, at least.

Cheers
