Young Satsuki is looking for her little sister Mei and runs along the dirt road through the wonderful japanese landscapes. From 1:11 to to 1:15 she runs with her sandals, as hard as possible during 4 minutes, it's a lot for a movie.
Exhausted, she stops and looks at her feet, completely damaged by her shoes.
And guess what ? she takes off her shoes, and find strengh enough to run 3 more minutes.
Ah !
2 years before Totoro (1988) was "Castle in the Sky" (1986), also barefoot friendly, by the same Hayao Miyazaki :
