I have a pair of Luna Origens specifically because they're thick and resilient, all the better to wear for cycling. I cycle commuted to work in them for years before they showed any significant wear. Before that no shoes or sandals I owned were thick enough to prevent my feet from hurting on the pedals. For everyday wear they're heavy and kind of awkward when you're used to something 6mm thick and barely there.

I would not use car tires, sins they containes allot of toxic stuf. Probably other materials that would be much better in regards to that.
You know you're absolutely right. I never even thought of that! Good call and good reason to avoid them.
