Are Heavily Callused “Summer Feet” Actually Good for Runners?

Kind of convoluted logic. Compelling evolutionary evidence, and tangible benefits, yet . . . you still need shoes to race.

Personally, I like the look and feel of callused soles and palms. Makes me feel complete?

It's kind of crazy how the author describes a pleasant, and until recently quite common, process of attaining healthier, bare feet:

"During that time, I regularly walked on beach, boardwalk, paved roads and cement sidewalk without any shoes on. It’s an Old World vibe that still flourishes in coastal towns: “summer feet.” Scrambling around on sand, rocks and wooden panels builds a toughness tolerance into the soles of your feet."

But then describes the results as a "battering" or the feet as "battle-scarred."

He's obviously letting ideology alter his perception of the actual experience.

A real tenderfoot.
