    BF Renewal

It's been awhile since I've run barefoot; in fact, well over two years. But in the two years I've kept up my running in my favorite Merrill Trail Runners focusing on 5k & 10k distances (marathons don't interest me). Most recently I've focused on shorter distances and speed (hill sprints, flat...

Article: Pitfalls of Transitioning from Shod to Barefoot: A Newbie's Perspective

Excellent points, Barefoot Terry. "Too much, too soon" is the problem. I started barefoot running in mid-February and had a couple minor bouts of overdoing it, but thankfully no acute or chronic injury resulted. Things that have helped me slowly build barefoot mileage are not running...

Comment by 'Unshod Rod' in 'Glass? What glass?'

Excellent post, Wendy. I've been running barefoot since mid-February and have never stepped on or been pricked, poked, or lacerated by glass. In fact, twice have I stepped on remnant shards of broken glass in my kitchen a few weeks back (I guess barefooting in the kitchen is out). Barefoot...

    Barefoot Venice Beach/Boardwalk Run

Except for 12+ mile baptism-by-fire barefoot run a few weeks ago, this was my longest BF run. It was great. On the first leg I ran the sand at waters edge from the Venice Pier to the Santa Monica Pier only taking one brief walk. I notice a handful of other BF beach runners. Near the SM Pier...

    Barefoot Run

[Barefoot] As a beginning barefoot runner I tend not to run barefoot on consecutive days to give my soles time to adapt, and on the days I've tried I've quickly regretted it. On today's consecutive run, I was pleased how quickly my feet had recuperative from yesterday...

Palmav, thanks! Although Monday Iventured out and my feet felt like lead. By the time I finished the 2 miles my soles were sore, like I hadn't run BF before. One run at a time.

    Relishing My BF Progress

2 miles :: 10 minute pace Six days since Griffith Park and I hadn't really tested my soles. Except for sore calves, my feet felt great. The ball of my left foot, so sore this week, felt good, just minor discomfort. On the hilly descents I let go and ran without the usual apprehension. I was...

Thanks! Barefoot Ken Bob is great. He does all this just for his love of barefoot running. He's having his next BF seminar at Griffith Park on May 9th from 9 -11 a.m. Griffith Park is great because it offers so many challenging surfaces and scenic vistas.

It takes real decernment and patience to know when to push through and when to backoff and rest. If not May, I have no doubt you'll master the mileage soon enough.

Barefoot Terry, Thanks, it was awesome; a great learning experience. My longest barefoot run was a little over 3 miles on smooth concrete. My longest running shoe run was just under 5 miles. I'd never recommend such a dramatic distance jump, but in the moment and with such experienced company...

Barefoot Griffith Park Run with Barefoot Ken Bob Saxton & Friends

11.59 mi :: 03:16 hours :: 16:54 minute pace Yesterday was not just my longest barefoot run but my longest run ever. It was tough, but I learned a lot. Although my soles got beat up pretty good, I ran steady and solid. I was worried my feet would give out before my will, but actually my...
