    Minimalist Running Video

Thanks for sharing. One thing I've noticed with most of these videos of minimalist/barefoot running: they are running pretty fast. If I try that high back-kick when running my usual 10-11 min/mile, I'd kill my hamstrings in no time... :D Recently I stumbled on The Balanced Runner youtube...

    Winter...

We also have weird winter here in East Finland; usually we should have -10C...-25C temp in January, and 2-4 ft snow. Now we have a few inches snow, and temperature changes berween -5C and +5C. Roads and pavements are either wet or skate rink... No fun to run. Makes you believe in climate change...

    Commentary regarding Barefootedness...

Last summer, couple of teenage guys saw me and laughed in surprise: "Where's your shoes?" I took a confused look, glimpsed at my feet and said "I knew I forgot something!" and kept running with a grin on my face...

Impressive Feet: Sonny Molina, Barefoot World Record Setter

Impressive Feet, indeed! And shod or barefoot, his marathon records are insane!

Best Barefoot Shoes: The Closest Thing to Walking Barefoot

You don't necessary have to be true minimalist (or bf) runner for that kind of an article, but at least you should do your homework. Today there is a myriad of "bf shoes", on what basis he elevates those three on top? The "comparison chart" is very vague and subjective. For that article, I...

    Should you be exercising barefoot?

Well, the story itself was pretty short and nothing really new. "Start carefully to avoid stress fractures" etc. But it was nice to see glimpses of The Guru running :) (I managed to see the vid with vpn in my phone)

Tips for barefoot running in cold weather

And overdressing your legs is essential, so you get enough warm blood flowing in your feet. Not much first hand experience; it was mentioned in some book, but sounds logic enough to me.

    Kysymys suomalaisille

Only difference I've found here running shod or unshod is that in latter case people you see don't look you in the eyes :D Good to hear.

    Kysymys suomalaisille

Hello Peter, and welcome to Finland! I can't of course talk for everybody, but I think for most of the people it's quite OK. Odd looks every now and then is guaranteed, but don't let that bother you; deep down majority of Finnish people are pretty open-minded. And we tend to mind our own...

    Safety of bare foot running

Human skin offers quite remarkable protection against germs or other nasty stuff. I wouldn't worry about animal waste that much (I think I have stepped on more bird droppings that I can count), but of course there is a risk if you get your skin broken (cut, abrasion) you could get an infection -...

Cadence of a 'good' barefoot runner?

Thanks guys, very good points. It was just a random idea; I was pondering what makes the difference in "comfortable cadence" for each individual. Most likely it's just the combination of leg length and mass of leg and foot. Combined to running technique, of course.

Cadence of a 'good' barefoot runner?

One thing affecting the "comfortable cadence" could be the ratio of slow-twitch and fast-twitch muscle fibers. I struggle to get the cadence in 190 or close to that. 180 is doable, but after a few km it will drop close to 170 if I don't pay attention to it. Of course, I'm not much of a runner...

    Best underwear for running (men's)?

I wear light shorts without liner, so underwear is mandatory... Craft Greatness 3" or 6" works for me. Otherwise I wear always Björn Borg boxers, but they are too "heavy" for running imho.

    Barefoot training for ultra

It's a process still ongoing. Years, anyway. And yes, I figured that you meant the steroid use as a parable. But the point of my (and I suppose Barefoot TJ's and trevize1138's, too) comments is that for human physiology it's impossible to speed up the natural development (without extreme tricks...

    Barefoot training for ultra

There is a difference how do you enhance your body. Steroids are bad for your health, there's no question about it. You can build muscles like beef cattle, but the price will be your wellbeing later. My colleague is a "classic bodybuilder" without any steroids; he told me that he won't use as he...

    New from MN

Here in Finland we have the same issue with winter. Many of us solve it by running just in socks. Wool socks or maybe double in cold days. For slush and wet snow Sealskinz or similar waterproof, and maybe other socks over them to add traction.

    Hi from the Netherlands

Nice plan Paul, it's good to start (again) easy. -Blisters in toes could indicate too much "pushing" with toes but as you were running on the beach it just could be because of the foot sinking in the sand. I've found smooth pavement / street the best surface to hone my technique. It gives...

    Hello Everyone!!

About running in cold: here in Finland we run in socks in winter. When it's -10C to -20C you just put couple of woolen socks on top of each other and it's fine. If your step is correct they can last very long time. I've run 2k to 3k totally barefoot in -1C...-3C on asphalt many times this year...

How did you find the BRS?

I found BRS by just googling "barefoot running forum", assuming there is one. - After reading his book (actually even before that) I've been huge fan of Ken Bob. I love the idea of barefoot running and wanted to find a community to possibly seek for tips and advice to learn it better. And maybe...
