Hi all,

I've been running barefoot (full barefoot) for about 18 months now, but most of it has been on roads. I'd really like to start taking advantage of some of the local trails, but they're pretty rough.

I was wondering if any of you have any tips for transitioning to rough trails in bare feet?

Thanks!

Dawsy,
I often carry a pair of minimalist shoes (VFFs or huaraches) in a fanny pack. That way, I can try a trail barefoot and then I just put the shoes on when my feet get tired or if the trail is too rough.

Paraganek would be a good person to ask about this too. I've watched him go across crushed gravel like it was nothing... I really am in awe of his trail running ability.

The only tip I can give that helped me significantly is relax your feet completely on gravel. I often think of them as rubbery flaps loosely attached to my ankles.
I hope that helps. If not just give it some time :) (I have been on trails for over a year).
