Softstar Runamoc LITE and Dash Review

You're advertising your

You're advertising your "review" of the SoftStar Dash, when you don't have any first-hand experience with the shoe.

Advertising would imply that

Advertising would imply that I'm trying to sell you something, which I'm not. I'm providing information to interested folks at BRS because I like the people and the organization. People on here ask me to review things, and I do.

And never did I say I have experience with the Dash shoe anywhere in the post or in this thread. Although it's the exact same shoe as the LITE with some cosmetic changes, so one could say that in a way I do have that experience.

Do you have a point to all this beyond just needling me?

Much cooler.  The webbing on

Much cooler. The webbing on the Neo is the same breathability as a normal trainer, but the holes on the Runamoc are much bigger. So lots more air travels through the shoe. Plus the leather stays pretty cool in warm weather as long as you don't let it sit in the sun or anything.

You are trying to sell

You are trying to sell something, a blog and using a bait-and-switch tactic in the thread title to attract viewers who wouldn't have otherwise visited it. As for the Dash and Runamoc being the same shoe except for cosmetic changes, I disagree. The Runamoc adjusts the fit around the leg/ankle while the Dash adjusts the fit around the foot.

Man! Those years in business school really paid off, can't believe I still remember that!!! I'm not saying anything, just showing off my mad definition skills.

Thanks for the review Saypay! SUPER excited about the Dash, and always happy to see someone happy with their elf shoes :) I stained my socks on mine all winter, but it was worth it because they are brown in front with red heels and look pretty classy and less butt-ugly than your fully red ones. That red...doesn't look the best. Very bright! Much brighter than the suede red methinks...

SP, What is the reinforcement

SP, What is the reinforcement in the heel made of to keep the leather from sagging and bunching up at the heel? On my Choclates it was a glued on peice of plyable leather which did not do the trick. I had holes in each of the heels where the leather of the heel attaches to the vibram soles after only 450 miles.

As far as their new model. I am sorry I get enough crap from my rural community about my footware or lack there of. I am not going to give them anymore ammunition. They are not very pleasing to the eye but I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

sole_foot: The heel

sole_foot: The heel reinforcement is a small piece of rubber or leather that molds around your heel. It does a good job keeping the heel up without adding too much in the way of structure. I've heard from other folks that it either a) doesn't exist in their shoes, or b) doesn't work as well as mine. I think that if the shoe is too big or stretches out the heel piece isn't as effective.

Nyah: Again...any point to your comments other than needling me? If you don't like my post, then don't read it. Simple as that. As for your attacks on my intentions to "sell" my blog, you don't know me. Respectfully...give it a rest.

I can't see the pics and ...

I can't see the pics and ... well, so I didn't read very thorughly..=) did you get both shoes for the review? the old and the new?

Can't wait for the new ones to come out, I need some shoes for half dome and my runamoc lites are falling apart.

I only got a pair of the

I only got a pair of the LITEs kitsune. The Dash is actually still being designed (although you can find pictures of the latest version on the interwebs). I may get a pair to review yet, as it seems folks aren't satisfied with Softstar's position (and mine) that the LITE and the Dash aren't going to be functionally different.

Oh, yeah, I understand teh

Oh, yeah, I understand teh previous posts now... I will also disagree with you... seeems the new ones should stick to your foot better because of the laces. I know my lites, if you don't wear socks, kinda flop around a bit. can't wait for the Dashes though, hopefully, you're basically right =D

I do agree that you are selling something here, but that's fine.

No about the shoes you are selling -- I think they look like something I would seriously consider, even with the high price. I was a huge fan of Robeez and Robeez-like shoes when my son was old enough to wear them. Unfortunately, I don't think Robeez makes shoes for adults. But it looks like Softstar does. I think the problem with most minimalist shoes is that they are too much like regular shoes and not all that much like being barefoot, and you don't really have much feel for the ground.

Thanks for your review.

I'm a huge fan of the Moc-L's. I agree that socks need to be worn with them, otherwise they flop a bit, but I'm ok with that. I went and got some of them fancy seamless ones, and it feels like I'm just wearing fancy socks when I'm out running around in them.

As far as the dash goes, I don't know if I can get into that new-shoe-design. I just think that my heel will slide around a bit in the Dash, but that's just from me looking at a picture and could be completely off base. I wonder if they will apply that look to some of the other shoes they produce? I think someone could pull those off at work if'n they have to wear suits and such.

Thanks for the review! Keep us posted if you get a pair.

I was just checking out this

I was just checking out this "running" version of the Dash (not that I can wear shoes), and what I like about this company is their taking responsibility and warning folks up front about the importantance of transitioning carefully. It's just a simple, but powerful statement, and I would like to see all minimalist shoe companies doing the same.

WARNING: Making the switch from traditional running shoes to minimal shoes or barefoot running should be eased into with some good research and advice from healthcare professionals to prevent injury. Running minimal/barefoot will naturally shift your stride to a lighter forefoot or mid-foot strike and will inevitably use new muscles in your feet, ankles and calves. Please do not just take off in them unless you already are a minimal footwear / barefoot runner type of guy/gal. You will be tempted to just take off (for sure) as they are FUN and you feel like a kid running in them... but you will most likely end up injuring yourself if you go at it full speed without prior conditioning. There is a lot of great advice on the Internet on how (and WHY) you want to transition to a more minimal shoe. It is worth your time to do some research and find a training plan that works for you and avoid throwing out your back or blowing your calf muscle
