barefoot and pregnant and in need of shoes. :(

Not surprising results. That study was done on shod women. I'd be curious what the results would be comparing to barefoot women. Barefooting, as I understand it, helps to strengthen the muscles and tendons in your feet so while pregnancy will definitely affect them maybe barefoot ladies have an easier time with the changes and/or "recover" from the changes more easily. ???

Yes, this study determined that arch height decreased in pregnant women and remained that way postpartum.
So all it really proved is that feet that get support from footwear are not prevented from losing arch height during pregnancy, and that it will not be regained after a period of recovery is allowed.
Yet one more reason to not think supportive footwear is of any use, it apparently does nothing at all to prevent arch collapse in pregnant women.
