I have to admit that I am a bit nervous about my first BF race tomorrow. It is four miles on city streets. I think my soles are okay and I no longer have any issues with my lower legs, but I know I will be the only BF runner present of 500 entries and I just don't want to face all the comments. "Where are your shoes?" "Is that hard." "How do you do that?" Blah, blah blah. For the "where are your shoes" comments, I think I will say, "I went to order a pair of shoes last week and they were $160. That's a whole week of beer for me."

If you're not competitive speed wise, start from the back so that you are passing people the whole time.
If you run fast, you'll be passing people anyways; don't give them time to talk cuz they'll be coughing up ur dust. ;)

Seriously, it can be annoying to be asked pre/post race questions, but maybe try to embrace the attention like a minor celebrity? Either way have fun!!!!!!!
:D

Have fun! :barefoot:

Have fun seems to be the recurring theme for advice. I'll definitely try to do that. As far as being competitive, back in the day 4 miles went by in 22 minutes, but the mid 60s and now BF running has slowed me down. One lesson I have learned is that too much speed while learning BF technique can be as detrimental as too much distance/time. I keep having flashbacks from Ken Bob's talk a month or so ago. One thing he said in that quiet manner of his was "you need to learn how to slow down."

In regard to passing people, that shouldn't be too much of a problem. The walkers get a 15 minute head start and the women get a 4:44 minute head start. Why 4:44? It's the Run "4" Downtown in Middletown, NY. Two hours and counting!

Race report. I survived and had fun. Scedastic was right. Not that many comments and all of them I heard were positive. I was 9th out of 16 in the 60-69 age group. Time was 37:00 for four miles and a 9:15/mile average. I ran very conservative really not knowing what to expect. Probably .75 miles had been recently resurfaced, so that was nice. I stayed right at a 10/min mile pace through 3 miles. The last 150 yards I was moving pretty good, okay I was sprinting. The adrenaline got to me. Soles feel good!
