I saw a guy in Nike Frees
I saw a guy in Nike Frees tonight while running in the English Garden in Munich. He was obviously (and painfully) trying to go for the "heal to toe" roll thing. He also seemed super intent on passing me (judging by his huffing).
A bit later I saw him stretching, or rather leaning next to a tree. As far as I could tell, he was nursing some injury. I noticed a decisive wince. If he hadn't had such a hostile "what kinda barefoot weirdo are you" expression, I would have stopped to ask whether he was alright.
Frankly, professional marketing of the Nike or Aisic calibre is kind of like political polling. It's all about measuring, nothing about leadership. They are measuring exactly what kind of market is where for what kind of shoe. This means that they discover lowest common denominator (= shoe of the masses), without taking any bold steps that might upset someone (i.e. the kind of leadership some of the true minimalist companies are showing). Aisic has figured out that they are losing ground to Nike. But neither of them will do a real BF-shoe until they can sell millions of pairs.
I am just waiting for the explanation they will give, as they try to sell their old shoes side-by-side with the true minimalist shoes. The cognative dissonance will be deafening.
Cheers,
Paleo
