In my desperate search to find something minimalist yet still appropriate for work (I'm a teacher.), I came acrosse these on the Zappos site and I'm itching to give them a try. They look a little narrow in the toebox but I'm willing to bet they'll stretch right out with just a little bit of wear. Any thoughts?

Those do look nice,

Those do look nice, teacher-like. Kinda expensive though. The narrowness of them would kill my feet. The toe kick/spring looks quite large. If the flexibility of the shoes doesn't allow you to set your toes down without any effort, then that could be a problem. They do look good though and have several nice colors too.

I had a couple of people that I went to school who wore these and really liked them. I can't say anything from personal experience but they do look nice.

TJ

I'm not sure how much spring they'd actually have, considering the sole is just a thin strip of leather. I showed them to my gf and her comment was, "They look like slippers!" Back to the drawing board I suppose.

Toe spring is the term they use to describe the toe lift of a shoe. I think they look nice.

A little googling turned up a view of the Audjie's sole. The toebox is pointy, narrow, clearly a bad fit for my feet. Unfortunate. Audjie apparently also makes many other thin-soled, heel-less, dress-casual shoes too, which don't really look like slippers at all.

I'll have to check them out

I'll have to check them out Nyah. From what I saw on Zappos, anything they had with a thin sole looked a bit 'slipperish' (and yes, I did just create a word).

I think I've looked at them

I think I've looked at them before Janson, those were another pair that I thought fit solidly in the slipper category. I've actually been toying with the idea of talking to a friend of mine (Half-Cherokee) to see if any of his relatives still make traditional mocassins. Not only would they be custom-fit and super-minimalist, they'd also be one heck of a converstation piece. :)

I had some leather moccasins

I had some leather moccasins when I was a kid, just a little bottie that had fringe around the ankles and zipped up the back of the heel. No sole, just leahter. Searching.....

Scroll down to "soft sole"... might be worth a shot? If I wasn't vegetarian....

Can I get them to make it in a faux leather? :-/

Back in my "hippie" days, I used to wear moccasins. I even had a pair of moccasin boots, fringe, beads, the usual. Very cool. Those shoes were so comfortable, I forgot I was wearing shoes. Now those are the kinds of shoes people should be wearing for full coverage when needed because they allow the foot to move the way it was intended, unihibited .

Thanks Chesire! Those don't look half bad. I might give them a whirl.

I have a pair of Sperrys that I wear now but, unfortunately, they have quite a bit of a heel on them. If I could just find some way to get the heel off, I'd be set. From what I can tell though, the shoe is stitched to the sole. So, cutting any of the heel off would probably result in the entire shoe unraveling.

It's not access to the equipment that's the issue. It's the shoe construction. If my camera wasn't on the fritz, I'd post a picture. The stiching that holds the entire shoe together runs through the sole. If I were to grind down the sole, I'm pretty sure I'd grind the shoe right apart. :(
