Foot Hygiene

Green Scotchbrite scrubber and soap, and my feet look brand new again!

Gee, thanks for the visual.

Well, whatever you do, don't think about Newt Gingrich naked...the pale belly, the flabby thighs and the Turkey Wattle will be too much to consider...

Oooops....too late...you thought about it...

Yea, thanks again!

I use soap and one of those plastic scrubbing sponges that are safe for use on teflon pans. They're usually 2 for $1 at the dollar store.

I'll also quickly dip the bottoms of my feet in small plastic tub of alcohol at some point during the day. I think should take care of any little cuts/abrasions and might toughen the skin a little.

If that works for you, then fine. But make a mental note that alcohol is a defatting agent (deteriorates the fatty layers), so if you find you've developed any skin-related issues, look at that, first...

Defatting... interesting. Well, I don't like the smell of rubbing alcohol, so I use 153 proof ethanol. That does wonders for the body right?

Well anyway, my skin is fine, just a quick dip and air dry. I'd imagine that some people get more daily exposure through their hand sanitizer.

Oh, very true. The dose makes the poison, as it were...

I scrub my soles a bit with a medium stiffness brush, sometimes with soap, over the laundry room sink, and then hop in the shower. I bought a pumice stone for my heel fissures a year ago, but I never seem to get around to using it. At least I'm getting better about flossing my teeth more regularly. I also cut my toe nails periodically, does that count? It's funny but my feet are actually cleaner when I run than when I'm just putzing around or walking, must be the greater abrading.

Does that scrub off your soles at all? Do you just use it very gently, or is it gentle enough to not worry about it?

I never had a problem with it taking any skin off. It was the best combination I could find.

If they're really filthy I sit on the edge of the tub and hose em down, soap and coarse brush as needed ... If they're not really filthy, I just wipe em on the floor mat... Most of my runs end on the road and concrete driveway leading to the front door, and that usually cleans off the bulk of the stuff that the DW might find yucky

Yes, good question.

My regimen runs the gamut from Sced's "what hygiene?" through Clawhammer's " drink a beer all the way to Willie_g's "hose'm" if they're nasty enough to notice. Usually it bumps along at about the "what hygiene?" level.

I set up a little wash station outside the garage, with one of those grey restaurant busboy trays filled with cool water from the hose. A gentle soap lathered onto the grooviest scrub brush you ever did see, a gift from my wife:

Now that you all are jealous of this cool tool, I'll leave you all to lament the decrepitude that is your own foot hygiene brush. Green Scotchbrite, indeed :)!
