My Coldest Run

So, yeah... tonight was about the coldest barefoot run I've ever done (35 degrees). I think my toes are still down there, though I couldn't really feel them after the first mile. I don't know how you barefoot snow runners do it. On a positive note - my first mile was 8 min with a 8:15/mi pace overall for the 2 miles. Getting faster!!!

My huarache kit is in the mail. I hope it comes soon. I don't know how my feet will keep up with these temps. Yes, to all you snow runners, I'm a wuss.

After I got done defrosting in the shower, I realized my toes on my right foot were all swollen. The big toe was the worst - looked about 50% larger. On the other toes, the last joints were like little balls. All the toes were hard. Fortunately, it all went away in about an hour.

It takes time to adapt to running in the cold. One thing that Iwish Ihad tried years ago is to start running in shoes, and take them off after a mile or two, after your core has warmed up. Idid that Sunday (24 degrees) and found that my feet stayed nice and toasty. From now on, that's going to be my new Winter protocol. Aquasocks, then barefoot, once I'm well warmed up.
